This study examined the incidence of noise and air pollution on residents’ livability in Ikirun metropolis. It evaluated the incidence, prevalence and the sources of the pollution across different neighbourhoods in the study area, also, evaluated is the variation in severity of the noise and air pollution and its perceived health implication on residents. Ikirun metropolis comprises of 14 localities. Random sampling was used to select 7 localities from the 14 localities. The 1996 population of the selected localities was projected to 2020 and 0.5% of each population of each selected localities was sampled. This gives a total of 732 questionnaires were administered in the study area.Also, noise and air pollution sources in the selected localities were collated and random sampling was used to select five noise pollution sources and five air pollution sources which are traffic, noise from market, noise from school, steel rolling industry, construction site among others. Noise levels from the randomly selected five noise sources in randomly selected localities were measured using Extech dosimeter and concentration of four gases (CO, CO2, H2S and CH4) from the randomly selected five air pollution sources in randomly selected localities were measured using Crowncon gas pro multigas monitor. Results from the analysis were compared with Federal Environmental Protection Agency (FEPA) standards. Pearson Product Moment correlation was used to examine the relationship between noise pollution and health of residents. The study is expected to reveal that noise levels in the sampled localities ranged will exceed the recommended FEPA level of Nigeria. Also, Houses closer to pollution sources are likely to experience health problems like headache, sleep disorder among such residents. The study therefore recommends that the public needs to be sensitized on the evil of noise and air pollution and the need to curtail it. The three tiers of government need to cooperate in educating the masses in this area.
